About

The First Age

This site was created 1999-04-11 as a fusion of 2 sites: Megatherion Homepage and Therion Intelligence Page. Megatherion Homepage was mine. TIP was Daniel's.

The main purpose of MH was to be a standard Therion fan site with discography and some lyrics that were available then. No Extra Info section, no Interactive section, no ANYTHING section. :)

Daniel's TIP was a masterpiece. Not visually but by content. Daniel came up with an idea to find and explain all the words that Therion used in their lyrics. Such as basic ones like Therion, Vovin, Theli, to more sophisticated ones like, Aluqah, Lepaca, Clavicula Nox etc. So he collected over 60 entries at the TIP, which is now a base for the word explanations section over at the fanclub (Therion Society).

Then we thought of uniting our pages, and did so + added the translation projects, as Siren of the Woods translation to English was almost finished. These projects(translation and explanation) were the main reason ours united site (Megatherion Intelligence Page) kept going.

In the meantime, MIP grew, and many of the other sections were added, as we got support from the Therion themselves. After a while, the page became the official one, as all the other big pages unfortunately died out, (under that I mean the Official Russian Therion site (Not the same as is the site that is the Official Russian site today), and Displacer's Maniac Fan Page. The work then slowly towards creation of the fanclub, by Chris' request. When the fanclub was created, the Word Explanations and Song Translations were transferred there, as were many new sections created, but that you can read in the Fanclub Contents section.

Credits
  • Ivo's is in charge of design, html and perl coding, graphics, standard therion data and translation projects. Namely everything except what David and Leandro do.
  • David Sarmiento Quintero is a big help whenever something has to be programmed in php, either a "simple" thing like the search engine in the discography section, or something far more complicated like the interactive scripts in the fanclub. An excellent programmer and a friend. Thanx!
  • Leandro is now the official Tabmaster. Meaning he runs the tabs section, accepts new tabs, corrects them and pastes them up there. I think he really loves his work and is quite good at it.
  • Pandemonius is responsible for the extended discography section, although there is not much news there to add these days, he obitained some impossible-to-find-otherwise songs and data.

I guess there are about 30 people who helped us in all the ways, by sending the lyrics, helping solve the projects, and pointing at the bugs. The list of all the helpers is actually at the News Archive section, where you can see who attributed in what way to the ex M.I.P, nowadays the official Therion website.

Oh, and never forget, the Therion crew. What would we do without them? :)

The Second Age

I took over the administration of these websites (The Official Website and The Therion Society) on the 8th of December, 2004. The first months after I took control were spent updating the database structure and scripts. I also wrote an admin so that the band members could update the site without depending on me. We (me and the band) decided to leave the layout and design for the site that Ivo made.

Later on came all the heavy work with writing a real fully functional store for Therion. It was written completely from scratch and tailored exactly to the bands needs. Not an easy task writing such features as postage calculation based on weight and special envelopes and such.

David stayed within the crew until March 2005. At that time the server had been hacked by some Spanish kids because the server also hosts the Dragon Rouge site. David did a few things without my consent resulting in more downtime than what was necessary. But together with him, some friends from the Therion Chat and Ivo, we got the server up and running again without damaging the system too much and losing the data stored there. Luckily we pulled everything off in the end without losing anything at all. After this there was a mutual understanding that David would not be a part of the crew

Everything after that stayed pretty much the same until before Christmas 2005. Then the rather large task of improving the Therion Store was begun, adding stuff like getting the store to put things into correct envelopes and such. When that was done, I then turned to working on a new version of the Therion websites. Bringing in Pratik Kamat, a very good friend and a gifted designer, to do some visual magic. And the result is what you see before you today.

Some Thanks

Also I would like to thank those who have helped out with getting this version of the site up

  • Pratik Kamat for slaving like hell doing the designs for our sites
  • Ivo for taking the time to rescue the server in distress
  • LakeOfTearz for an enormous amount of work on the XML files. Without her help the site still wouldn't be out.
  • Other people whom in some way have helped out with the new website: koarakajya, Eve, Death and more.
